It's hard to keep up with trends of any kind – and furniture is no exception! As seasons, styles, moods and designers palettes change, what seems like everyday, it can become confusing, overwhelming and somewhat of a downer.  We know this might sound cliché, but if you stick to your own style and what give you pleasure, then you're already narrowing down your options quite a lot!

The newest and hottest trends in furniture can be here and gone in what seems like the blink of an eye, but we've caught six trends you won't want to lose track of – because they're timeless, versatile and functional. Thinking about the essentialis and multi-functionality are the top priorities this time around, so we promise you won't be disappointed or without! Check out our six trends in furniture design below and see if there are any you can't live without!

Furniture influencing all senses

As long as time can tell, or more so, as long as modernism can tell – industrial designers have been long invested in creating furniture that plays with our senses.  Of course, one might think that a massaging or vibrating chair is what we mean here – but don't be fooled.

Almost any piece of furniture we put our hands on arouses our senses in multiple ways. We are sure you remember the vintage texture – and even smell – of your grandmother's arm chair. Or that old bed frame we had since childhood that you might have 'accidentally' put stickers on or drew on.  The same aesthetic experience that famous works of art create, can also, undoubtedly, be created by our favorite pieces of furniture.  So, pick pieces that appeal to your senses – the way the texture feels, the way the leather smells, the sight of the perfectly grained wood used for the arm rests – and live through your furniture.

The example pictured here is a perfect example of a full sensual experience when it comes to a basic (yet, not so basic) arm chair!

Modular furniture

Convenient, functional and rather good looking, modular furniture can change your life! Trust us, modular furniture has come a long way since it's conception and now provides comfortability and functionality with a great look too!

When thinking about modular furniture, consider designers and brands with great reviews and feedback and make sure that you don't compromise the look you want – because believe us, you don't have to! Great for guests, dinner parties, friends, or for just a new look – modular furniture can change depending on almost any circumstances that pop up in your life!

Natural furniture

With the plethora of beautiful and synthetic materials around us that offer every colour and texture under the rainbow, it's easy to forget about the materials found in your backyard.

Hard wood furniture, especially that's sustainable, is one of the newest (and most fabulous) trends we can offer you!  If you prefer dark wood, think about making your own furniture with reclaimed or re-purposed barn wood – or for lighter grain wood, think about a sustainable option like bamboo.  Did you know it only takes five years for most bamboo trees to reach maximum growth? It's an amazing natural material that offers the durability, sustainability and most important, longevity that most other hard woods can't compete with.

If going completely to hardwood is uncomfortable for you, think about furniture that combines both fabric and natural wood, like seen here.

Solid furniture

Don't assume that 'solid' furniture means something cold, drab and overtly modernist. It doesn't have to be that way! Solid furniture can now be anything from the table pictured here, to a solid seating arrangement (don't worry, the right throws, animal skins, or cushions can make this a rather viable option!)

These options might be harder to find, but local designers will be able to provide the most interesting combinations! You can even consider 'solid' furniture for your  bathroom – check out this vanity example!

Comfort a priority!

Like in this example comfort hasn't always been a new trend, but rather a timeless classic.

It's true, the basis of your home, no matter what overall style you chose – should bring comfort to both you, and your guests. This couch is particularly wonderful as an example of how comfort and style can always be combined.  Select furniture that is lower to the ground to create a sense of height and depth in your rooms – and paired with a high-pile carpet and matching minimal detailed furnishings, this room turned out great!

Furniture with LED light

You made it to the bottom of our list! But that doesn't mean you should discount the last option! What can possibly be more multi-functional than furniture that combines LED lights and style? Think of this option as a way to decrease your need for lamps, lighting accessories – and maybe even use less energy.

Think about bed frames that include LED lights and chairs, sofas and tables that have outlining LED lights to direct yourself and guest through your home without skipping a beat!
