Every single day professionals around the world take seemingly hopeless old homes and dilapidated structures and not only transform them into places that we can call home, but create pieces of art that will be admired for years to come.

Norman Foster once said, If you weren’t an optimist, it would be impossible to be an architect. This is because architects see beyond ruin and disaster. They see the potential.

This is why today we have put together five renovations for you to copy. You'll see how different they all are as well as how a little bit of love and care can result in the most incredible designs. This is a true example of the vision that architects hold.

Are you ready to take a look?

1. Starting from scratch

In this image, we come across a home in construction, by Studio P—Luca Porcu Design. We can see that there is nothing more than a pile of rubble and a few brick walls. The cement tones are jarring and uncomfortable to look at and half of the room is still in building phase.

With the cement and the brick walls and the ladders and the construction everywhere, it's hard to imagine a beautiful home emerging.

A few steps later

In this image, we can see that there is a little bit of progress, but there is still a lot of of chaos and disorder.

We can see that white might be a dominant color in the upcoming design too. Are we right?

A masterpiece envisioned

Wow! Can you believe the difference between the first image and this image?

The designers have gone for white tones throughout the interior, which are enhanced by a green pot plant – just as we suspected. A pot plant or a vase of flowers is always a great way to add a bit of refreshing color and beauty into a home, especially if there is a neutral color palette.

The open plan design makes for a very spacious and inviting looking home.

2. The little apartment

In this project, by Fluido Design Studio, we come across these two images. They show us how this small space was old-fashioned and tacky, with clutter and chaos everywhere.

The kitchen is jam-packed with items all over the counters and floors, while the living space looks kitsch and outdated.  This little apartment was in serious need of a modern touch and a spring clean!

A whole new world

The designers have knocked down the walls, allowing the living space and kitchen to make up a much larger, expansive and more modern living space.

There is also a minimalist design that has been implemented, which changes the entire home. The counter tops in the kitchen only feature the most functional items, while the rest of the home has minimal decor and design.

This is a very sleek look and feel, further enhanced by the natural light that pours into the home.

Remember to invest in smart storage spaces in your home, keeping it looking tidy and organized at all times.

Behind the scenes

In this image, we come across the architectural plan, which shows us what the designers envisioned for this little home.

These types of plans are very important, illustrating exactly what architects and designers have in mind. This keeps everyone on the same page.

In this plan, can you see how all of the rooms have been opened up, creating large and open spaces?

More detailed

In this image, we come across a much more detailed plan. Are you able to understand it?

3. A disaster zone

In this image, we come across rubble, wood and dust everywhere. It's hard to imagine a beautiful home emerging from this pile of rubbish.

Yet Suzanne de Kanter Architecture & Interior have a very clear idea in mind, working with the beautiful garden that surrounds the home to create something quite spectacular…

A family home of beauty

The designers have ensured that there are panoramic views of the surrounding beautiful garden as well as natural light and ventilation flowing through this home. Curtains have been installed so that the family can have a bit of privacy and shade if need be – a great and modern design trick.

The designers have gone for a neutral color palette in this space, including soft brown leather sofas and grey rugs. A touch of red brings some life, personality and charm into the space.

4. A home reimagined

In this project, we can directly see the incredible work done by Rachele Biancalani Studio. A small home that was run down, with wires and pieces of wood everywhere has been converted into a slick and modern space.

The before image shows us what a mess the designers were working with, while the after image shows us how they took it in their stride to create the most wonderful finished product.

Clean lines and good lighting

If we look at the home a little more closely, we can see how it features lots of natural lighting, which works in harmony with the white tones and warm, wooden floor. Natural light is always an advantage in small homes, opening it up and making it that much more inviting.

The designers have also invested in plenty of cupboards, drawers and shelves so that items can be stored neatly out of sight. This makes for a very appealing home.

5. The edgy style

We end off our ideabook with one of the most dramatic transformations that we've seen.

We will see how R3architetti have taken this ruined space and turned it into something quite remarkable thanks to their foresight and vision.

In this image, we can see how horrifying this home is. It certainly could not have been lived in.

The very chic home

For the first time in this ideabook, we come across a very industrial chic look and feel.

The designers have worked with the raw elements that were available to them, creating a home that is very trendy and edgy.

Have a look at these tips for making your home roar with raw materials.

The eclectic bedroom

The bedroom in this new and improved home is worth noting because of its very eclectic yet tranquil design. Don't you love the blank frame on the wall?

The designers have stayed with the neutral color palette, creating a very warm, earthy and homely room that evokes peace and serenity.

The vision

Here we can see what the designers had in mind with a plan that is different to the ones that we saw earlier.

This plan features color, which highlights different aspects of the design.
